Humboldt Research Fellowship 2026 Germany Fully Funded
The Humboldt Research Fellowship is funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and is designed for outstanding researchers worldwide who wish to carry out their own research project in Germany in cooperation with a host institution of their choice
The fellowship is available for postdoctoral researchers as well as experienced senior academics and supports research across all academic disciplines without any restrictions or quotas
Postdoctoral researchers can benefit from a fellowship duration ranging from six to twenty four months while experienced researchers can participate for a period between six and eighteen months The program also allows flexibility as the fellowship can be split into up to three separate research stays within a three year period
Eligibility
Applicants must be highly qualified researchers with a strong academic track record and a clearly defined research proposal
The fellowship is open to postdoctoral researchers who have recently completed their doctorate as well as experienced researchers with a significant number of publications
Candidates must secure a host institution in Germany and obtain confirmation of collaboration with a research partner
Applicants of all nationalities are welcome provided they are not currently residing in Germany

Researchers with disabilities or chronic illnesses receive tailored support and flexible arrangements
The fellowship offers free intensive German language courses before the start of the research period and these courses are also available for partners
Long term support continues even after the fellowship ends through alumni funding opportunities return fellowships and ongoing support for future international research collaborations
