The MEXT University Recommendation (UR) Scholarship is a fully funded Japanese government scholarship awarded to outstanding international graduate students who wish to study in Japan. Managed by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the scholarship requires university nomination through APU.

Eligible Nationalities:

Eligibility Criteria:
Intend to study in Japan from overseas
Meet MEXT age requirements for the relevant intake year
Minimum GPA of 2.30 on a 3.00 scale (or equivalent)
Hold or be eligible to hold a Student visa in Japan
Not receive another unapproved scholarship concurrently
Not Eligible:
Applicants currently in active military service
Previous MEXT scholarship recipients (generally ineligible, exceptions may apply)
English Language Requirements:
Only recent test scores accepted
Accepted tests and validity periods follow MEXT guidelines
