Scholarship Program Overview

The President’s PhD Scholarships at Imperial College London provide a fully funded opportunity for outstanding students to pursue a PhD across all academic disciplines. The program supports exceptional scholars with full tuition, an annual stipend, and extensive research development opportunities.  Degree Level

  • PhD / Doctoral degree (3.5 years fully funded)

  • Available for both full-time and part-time study

Benefits

Each of the 50 scholarships provides:

  • Annual stipend of £25,224 (2024/25 rate)

 Eligible Nationalities

Open to students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic excellence: first-class or equivalent undergraduate/ Master’s degree

  • Research potential: demonstrated through previous research experience

  • Open to both traditional and non-traditional academic/career backgrounds

  • Only new PhD applicants are eligible; current Imperial PhD students cannot apply

  • Full-time or part-time PhD programs

  • Some departments may have restrictions for international candidates

 Application Procedure

  1. Find a Supervisor – Identify a potential supervisor who agrees to supervise your PhD project.

  2. Check Supervisor Availability – Ensure the supervisor is available to take new scholars.

  3. Online Application – Submit PhD admission application through Imperial’s online system; departmental review will automatically consider you for the scholarship.

  4. Supporting Documents – Include a 2-page document: personal statement (motivation, background) and research proposal. Provide names of two academic referees.

  5. Indicate Scholarship Interest – Select “President’s PhD Scholarship” in the funding section.

Review and Selection

  • Two-stage process: departmental review and college selection panel

  • Assessment based on academic excellence, research potential, and interview performance

  • Conditional offers may apply; unsuccessful candidates are considered for standard PhD offers

  • Apply by 3 November 2025 → Notification by 31 January 2026

  • Apply by 12 January 2026 → Notification by 31 March 2026

  • Apply by 2 March 2026 → Notification by 31 May 2026
