Event Details
Qatar Museums Foundation presents the exhibition “Between a Look and a Look: Gérôme, Art and Influence,” exploring the art and legacy of French painter and sculptor Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824–1904). The exhibition examines Gérôme’s influence on the Orientalist art movement and contextualizes his work alongside modern and contemporary artworks from West Asia, North Africa, and Central Asia.

Key Features & Highlights:

Features nearly 400 works from the Lusail Museum’s Orientalist Art Collection.
Includes important loans from international institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York) and the Islamic Arts Museum (Malaysia).
Presents new commissions by contemporary artists including Babi Badalov and Nadia Kaabi-Lenki.
Curated by Emily Weeks, Giles Hudson, and Sara Reda.
Accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue with essays and research on Gérôme’s influence.
