UTRIP Research Internship Program at the University of Tokyo is a prestigious summer research program offered by the Graduate School of Science (GSS). Launched in 2010, UTRIP aims to enhance the international profile of the school and attract outstanding undergraduate students from around the world who plan to pursue graduate studies (Master’s or PhD).
UTRIP Program Overview
UTRIP provides intensive research training under the guidance of specialized professors in the departments of:

The program includes hands-on training, academic guidance, interdisciplinary lectures, social and cultural events, a short Japanese language and culture course, and a trip outside Tokyo to a historical or natural site. At the end of the program, students must submit a written report and deliver an oral presentation.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:

Have completed at least one year of undergraduate study

Be enrolled in a university outside Japan and return after the program

Preferably be 3rd-year (4-year program) or 2nd-year (3-year program) students

Major in natural sciences or related fields

Have long-term career plans in scientific fields

Commit to the full six-week program

Provide proof of health insurance covering the stay

Provide proof of English proficiency (TOEFL/IELTS), or exemption if studied in English for 8 consecutive years
Student Commitments:

Dedicate full time to the research project

Attend all academic and social activities

Submit a final research report within two weeks of program completion
