About the Scholarship


The Bill Countryman Scholarship is offered annually by Credit Union 1 (CU1) to support Alaska residents pursuing higher education. Established in honor of long-time CU1 board member Bill Countryman, this scholarship aims to make education accessible for students of all ages, from junior high to adult learners, reflecting Bill’s belief that “education and adventure are what keep you young.”


Bill Countryman Scholarship 2026 | Partial Funding

This scholarship provides financial assistance to students in Alaska for tuition, vocational training, or enrichment programs, without restricting fields of study.

Degree Levels

  • Undergraduate / Bachelor

  • Vocational programs

  • Junior High & High School enrichment programs (Johns Hopkins CTY Program)

  • All majors and fields of study, including:

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet one of the following categories:

  1. Individuals of Any Age Continuing Education

    • Enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college, university, technical, or vocational school

  2. High School Seniors

    • Preparing to attend an accredited college or vocational program

  3. Junior High or High School Students (Grades 7–11)

    • Applying for the Johns Hopkins CTY Program

Additional Requirements

  • CU1 membership for at least one year (applicant or parent)

  • Demonstrate financial need

  • Provide proof of community involvement or extracurricular activities

  • Submit school transcripts and three letters of recommendation

  • Personal statement describing educational and career goals

Important Notes

  • CU1 employees and immediate family members are not eligible

  • Applicants may apply annually without restriction

  • Only online applications are accepted
