About the Fellowship
The Global Development Fellowship 2026 targets PhD students from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Lower Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). Selected candidates will participate in short-term research placements at Imperial College London, lasting two to four months, to advance high-impact research in global development.
Funding and Benefits
Fellows will receive:

Monthly stipend: £1,900

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
-
Be current PhD students
-
Be citizens and permanent residents of LDC or LMIC countries

Be enrolled in a university in LDC/LMIC
-
Have completed 12+ months of PhD study by start of fellowship

Provide a Letter of Support from an Imperial host supervisor (signed by Head of Department)

Provide a Letter of Recommendation from their home institution PhD supervisor

Demonstrate strong English proficiency (no formal certificate required)
Ineligible applicants: Dual British citizens, residents of Upper Middle-Income or High-Income Countries, and PhD students currently studying in such countries.

Application Review
Applications are reviewed by the Global Development Fellowship Committee. Results will be announced in December 2025, ensuring fair geographical representation among selected fellows.
