Japan NIMS International Cooperative Graduate Program Scholarship (ICGP) 2026

The International Cooperative Graduate Program (ICGP) 2026 offers PhD students from partner universities the opportunity to conduct part of their thesis research under co-supervision with NIMS researchers. This short-term research and training program promotes international collaboration and strengthens research skills in materials science.

Degree Level

  • PhD (Doctoral Level)

  • Open only to PhD students enrolled at partner universities with an ICGP agreement

Eligible Nationalities

  • International PhD students from universities partnered with NIMS under ICGP agreements

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time PhD enrollment at a partner university

  • Research topic aligned with a NIMS researcher’s field

  • English proficiency (TOEIC ≥ 740, TOEFL ≥ 550/80/213, or IELTS ≥ 5.5)

  • Valid passport

  • Medical certificate confirming good health

Application Procedure

  2. Prepare required documents:

    • Bachelor’s and Master’s transcripts

    • English proficiency proof

    • Passport copy

    • Financial Guarantee Letter

    • Health Guarantee Letter

    • Commitment Letter

    • Two recommendation letters

    • Completed ICGP application forms

  3. Submit application via the official ICGP form

  4. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted

Application Timeline

  • Deadline: 1 January 2026

  • Screening: January–February 2026

  • Results: Mid-March 2026
