Who Can Apply

The Merit Scholarship Program 2026 welcomes:
Bachelor’s degree students
Master’s degree students
Staatsexamen students (programs concluding with a state examination)
Doctoral candidates are not eligible

Fields of Study

The scholarship is open to all academic subjects at Universität Hamburg, including:
Natural Sciences
Social Sciences
Humanities
Business and Economics
Law
Medicine and Health Sciences
Education
Engineering and Computer Science

Scholarship Benefits

Receive up to €992 per month to support your studies
Funding lasts 12 months (2 semesters) with the option to reapply for up to 2 years
Scholarships are paid directly into a German bank account

Who is Eligible

Open to applicants of all nationalities
Must be enrolled at Universität Hamburg for at least 2 semesters (Bachelor/Staatsexamen) or 1 semester (Master’s)
Applicants must not hold German citizenship
Applicants not eligible for BAföG
Doctoral researchers are not eligible

Applications are evaluated based on academic excellence, subject-related achievements, and awards
