Program Overview
The OIST Research Internship Program offers students the chance to gain hands-on experience in advanced research under the mentorship of OIST faculty members. Internships typically last between 3 to 6 months, with the Spring 2026 session scheduled from April to September. This program is ideal for those seeking to enhance their research skills and considering future enrollment in OIST’s PhD Program.
Eligibility Criteria
- Currently enrolled in the final two years of a Bachelor's degree, or any year of a Master's degree, at universities, colleges, or vocational institutions globally.
- Graduates holding a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
- Currently enrolled students must obtain approval from their home institution.
- Academic background should align with the chosen research unit at OIST.
- Not suitable for current PhD students or PhD graduates.
Financial Support
OIST provides comprehensive financial support to ensure interns can focus entirely on their research:
- Daily allowance of ¥2,400 JPY per working day.
- Commuting allowance (local bus pass).
- Direct round-trip travel tickets.
- Furnished accommodation on or off-campus.
- Administrative support for visa and residency registration.

- Results Announcement: Late December 2025.
