Empower the Future of the Internet with the ICANN85 Fellowship in Mumbai 2026

An Invitation to Impact

This Fellowship supports emerging advocates and practitioners, especially from underserved or underrepresented communities, granting access to policymaking, training, and direct exposure to ICANN’s multistakeholder model. As a Fellow, you contribute to discussions on global Internet stability, security, and governance.

Who Should Apply

Applicants must be 21 years or older by the conference start and show interest or work in areas like DNS, cybersecurity, ICT policy, or public interest technology. Completing the mandatory ICANN Learn courses in advance is required. Returning applicants may apply again only if they have participated in no more than two prior Fellowships and remain actively engaged in the community. Public policy experts, telecom regulators, civil society leaders, technologists, and digital rights advocates are highly encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Receive

Travel support for in-person attendance, accommodation, per-diem during the event, and full remote participation support if the forum is virtual. Fellows also receive training, mentor pairing, networking opportunities, and entry to ICANN meetings. Special recognition awards—such as the Tarek Kamel Fellowship for returning fellows or the Paul Muchene Fellow Award (for technical Fellows from Africa)—are available.

Timeline & Key Dates

Applications are open now and close on 22 August 2025 at 23:59 UTC. Notifications will be sent by 6 November 2025. The ICANN85 Community Forum takes place in Mumbai from March 7–12, 2026.

Why This Fellowship Matters

This is more than a travel grant. It’s a direct entrance into global policy spaces, hands‑on learning, and long‑term engagement as part of the ICANN Fellows Alumni Network. Whether based in Africa, Asia, Latin America, or the broader global south, you will join peers, mentors, and decision-makers shaping the Internet’s future.

How to Apply

Register or log into your ICANN Account, complete the required Learn modules, fill out the online Fellowship application, and upload your CV, identity documents, and course completion certificates. Letters of recommendation are optional but may strengthen your application depending on your background in digital policy or tech governance.
