A Call to Intellectual Exchange

ViCAS offers up to ten Senior Fellowships and multiple Early‑Career Fellowships annually. Candidates from all fields pursuing bold, curiosity-driven research that transcends disciplinary boundaries are welcome. ViCAS fosters an inclusive research community through seminars, public lectures, and collaborative projects in the heart of Vienna.

What the Fellowship Offers

Early‑Career Fellows receive €5,500 monthly, plus a €1,500 accommodation allowance, with an additional €500 per month for each accompanying child under 18. Senior Fellows are supported with €7,000/month and €1,500/month housing allowance, along with the same family support policy. Workspaces are fully equipped, and fellows have full access to the university’s research infrastructure, libraries, and academic networks.

Who Should Apply

Early‑Career Fellowships are open to scholars who earned their PhD within the past eight years (career gaps allowed for valid reasons) seeking protected time to deepen scholarship. Senior Fellowships are designed for established academics holding or formerly holding professorial-level positions, with distinguished publications and an interest in cross-disciplinary engagement.

Key Dates & Duration

The academic term runs from October 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. The application deadline for both fellowship tracks is September 1, 2025. Selected fellows will be announced in early 2026
