Ignite Your Postdoctoral Journey in Germany – KWI International Fellowships 2026

Program Snapshot

Running from April 1 to September 30, 2026, this fellowship offers a monthly pre‑tax stipend of €4,000, carefully designed to cover living costs, rent, and insurance. Travel expenses for arrival and departure are partially reimbursed, while additional travel such as conferences must be covered from your stipend

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is tailored for those who have completed a PhD and have up to six years of postdoctoral experience—German nationals are welcome if currently employed at an international institute. Ideal candidates demonstrate strong English proficiency, as German is not required

Your project proposal must align with KWI’s interdisciplinary research agenda, whether focused on writing a book, launching a research initiative, or fostering collaborations with the University Alliance Ruhr

What You’ll Receive

Beyond the financial package, fellows will have dedicated office space, full access to a modern library, technical support, and administrative assistance. Attendance at least three days per week is expected, and active participation in KWI’s academic life—including entry and exit interviews, colloquia, lectures, reading groups, and contributions to the institute’s blog—is essential . You may also propose and host a workshop on campus.

Benefits Beyond the Basics

Nestle into a vibrant academic community and build connections with Ruhr‑area universities. Although the fellowship isn’t a full employment contract, the €4,000 monthly stipend and travel support offer robust support
