Two fully funded tracks are offered:-
KWI International Fellowship: For researchers holding a PhD with up to six years of postdoctoral experience. Includes €3,000/month (pre-tax), partial travel reimbursement, office space, technical support, and library access.

Thyssen@KWI Fellowship: Funded by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, welcoming candidates with several years of postdoctoral experience (R3 level). This track offers €4,000/month (pre-tax), similar research infrastructure, and additional eligibility for those with German nationality and international experience.
Who Should Apply
Ideal candidates are early- to mid‑career scholars in the humanities, cultural sciences, or social sciences whose research aligns with KWI’s agenda. Projects may involve finishing a book, preparing a grant proposal, initiating collaborations, or organizing workshops. German nationals are welcome under certain conditions. English proficiency is essential, while German language skills are not required.Expectations & Participation
Fellows are expected to spend at least three days per week onsite, engage actively in KWI’s academic events, contribute to the institute’s blog, and may propose a workshop. Entry and exit meetings are required. Publications should acknowledge KWI. Teaching is optional, though nearby university seminars are available for those interested.Key Dates
Applications are due by August 29, 2025 (midnight CET). Selection decisions are expected approximately four months before the fellowship begins. The fixed term runs from April 1 to September 30, 2026—no flexibility for earlier or later start or end dates.Why It Matters
