Scholarship Details

The SSP is a competitive fully funded doctoral research program spanning three years starting April 2026. It includes a full exemption from entrance exam, enrollment, and annual tuition fees. Scholars receive a monthly stipend of ¥150,000 and eligible international candidates (residing outside Japan) also receive a one‑time ¥150,000 allowance for travel and initial living expenses

Eligibility

You must hold—or expect to obtain—a Master’s degree after completing at least 18 years of education by the time of enrollment, and be no older than 35 years. A strong academic record, high English proficiency, and demonstrated research potential in fields such as aerospace engineering, informatics, architecture design, data science and innovation, or economics are required. Prior consent from a preferred SSP supervisor is mandatory.

Benefits

Selected scholars benefit from comprehensive financial support, including exemption from exam, enrollment, and tuition fees; a monthly stipend of ¥150,000; and relocation funding of ¥150,000. Additional academic and cultural support includes English research writing classes, Japanese language courses, mentorship and peer tutoring, assistance with accommodation (on-campus International House or dormitories), and participation in seasonal cultural activities.

How to Apply

First, browse the SSP Research Project List and contact your preferred supervisor to secure their approval. Once consent is granted, prepare your full application package—including transcripts, CV, English-test scores, research proposal, recommendation letters, and passport copy—and send it by post to KUT before October 17, 2025 for the April 2026 intake. Early preparation is highly encouraged.
