About the Fellowship

Each fellowship spans five months, either from September to January or February to June. NIAS provides a monthly stipend (typically €2,500–€3,500), subsidized accommodation or commuting support, office facilities, and access to library and seminars. Round-trip travel costs are reimbursed. NIAS issues an invitation letter but does not assist with visa arrangements.

Who Should Apply

This fellowship is designed for individuals whose scholarly or creative work is disrupted or censored due to conflict or political upheaval. Applicants may include researchers with three or more years of postdoctoral experience, or artists and journalists with comparable professional background; a PhD is not mandatory in the latter cases. Projects must fall within the humanities and social sciences.
