Fellowship Details
Starting in January 2026, this fellowship runs for 12 months, with the first 10 months in residence at IASH in Edinburgh followed by up to two months in your home country, facilitating collaboration with the British Council and regional stakeholders. The application portal opens on 29 April 2025 and closes at 23:59 UK time on 28 July 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by end of August, after which the fellowship begins in January 2026.
Eligibility
Applicants must be early-career researchers who earned their PhD within the past seven years (taking career breaks into account), based in an Official Development Assistance (ODA) recipient country where the British Council operates. Research proposals should align with British Council strategic themes such as arts, education, cultural relations, peacebuilding, international development, or soft power. Preference goes to candidates who haven’t previously studied or held a fellowship at Edinburgh.
Benefits
Fellows receive a £2,500 monthly stipend for the full 12‑month duration plus coverage of travel expenses. Additional support includes dedicated office space, university credentials, full library access, mentorship from senior faculty, invited seminars, and weekly Fellows’ lunches. You will also have opportunities to organize or participate in workshops, colloquia, and outreach or knowledge‑exchange events linked with the British Council.
