About the Program

Since 1981, the INPEX Scholarship Foundation has promoted international friendship and academic excellence. In 2026, they will award postgraduate scholarships to candidates residing overseas in the eligible countries. You must secure a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a prospective Japanese research supervisor or graduate programme before applying 

Who Should Apply

Open to national applicants from Indonesia, Australia, UAE, and Japanese nationals (for outbound track) who are under 30 years old (under 35 for outbound applicants), with a Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, engineering, or related fields and a GPA of 3.00 or higher 

What’s Included

You will receive:

  • Full tuition coverage including admission and exam fees
  • Monthly living allowance of ¥160,000 (~USD 1,100–1,200)
  • Round‑trip airfare from home country to Japan
  • Commuter pass for travel within Japan
  • Arrival allowance of ¥60,000
  • Pre-departure Japanese language training and insurance coverage
  • Duration of support: up to 2 years and 8 months 

Timeline & Selection

  • Deadline to apply: 31 October 2025
  • Early-stage interviews held in January 2026
  • Initial results announced in February 2026, with final awardees confirmed by March 2026
  • Study typically begins around April or October 2026 depending on your programme 

Application Requirements

Submit a complete application including:

  • Application form and a recent passport‑style photo
  • Academic transcripts and bachelor’s degree certificate or proof of pending graduation
  • Two or more recommendation letters
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Letter of Acceptance from a Japanese university or supervisor
  • English proficiency test (IELTS, TOEFL, or similar, after October 2023)
  • Japanese language certificate (JLPT) if available
  • Health certificate
  • You may also need permission from your current institution/employer if relevant
