Become a Partner in Crafting the Future of Public Governance
The program operates in two streams starting in Semester 1 or Semester 2 of 2026. Resident Academic Fellows, employed at partner universities in Australia or New Zealand, commit four to six months part‑time at ANZSOG, supported through a teaching‑buyout arrangement and funds for domestic travel. Meanwhile, Visiting Academic Fellows, open to scholars from any institution worldwide, spend one to three months at ANZSOG, receiving support for international airfare (up to AUD 8,000) and accommodation, access to office space, and integration into its practitioner-academic network
This initiative advances ANZSOG’s bold 2030 strategy of transforming governance through impact-driven scholarship and practitioner collaboration. Fellows are expected to align their research with ANZSOG’s core focus areas: leadership development, policymaking and design, First Nations & Māori integration in governance, and institutional transformation
Successful Resident Fellows receive approximately AUD 37,300 plus coverage of domestic travel. Visiting Fellows receive travel and accommodation support up to AUD 8,000 and full access to ANZSOG’s resources and networks during their stay in Sydney or Melbourne
Eligibility depends on affiliation type. Resident Fellows must be academics from ANZSOG partner institutions with five or more years post‑PhD experience and a part‑time appointment of at least 50% FTE at the fellowship commencement. Visiting Fellows must hold a doctoral degree with a similar level of experience and a valid visa if not based in Australia or New Zealand. Both streams emphasize scholarly excellence, public impact, and alignment with ANZSOG's mission
Applications open now and close at 11:59 PM AEST on 1 August 2025. The process consists of submitting an Expression of Interest that includes a one‑page proposed program of activity (max 1,000 words), a 500‑word statement of intended benefit to ANZSOG, a short‑form CV (max three pages), and a support letter from your supervisor or dean. All materials must be combined into a single PDF and emailed to research@anzsog.edu.au
Selection is based on peer evaluation and emphasis on connection between academic work and real-world governance outcomes. Particular focus is placed on engaging with practitioners, hosting workshops, delivering policy seminars, and fostering collaboration that enhances ANZSOG’s academic–practitioner ecosystem
ANZSOG’s first cohort of Fellows included academics from Monash, ANU, Melbourne, and Hamad Bin Khalifa University. You could join this community of global scholars shaping public administration policy and capacity building across Australasia
To get started, align your research focus with ANZSOG’s strategic themes, build a clear program of activity, and secure institutional approval for your time away. Craft a narrative that illustrates both what you offer ANZSOG and what you aim to gain through engagement. Submit before the key deadline—1 August 2025—to begin your fellowship term in early or mid‑2026.
