A global community of around two hundred exceptional young leaders is selected, drawn from diverse countries and academic backgrounds, to live at the architecturally iconic Schwarzman College. Together, scholars explore China’s role in global affairs while honing leadership skills that transcend borders and sectors .

What the Program Fully Covers

This prestigious program is entirely funded. It covers full tuition, accommodation at Schwarzman College, round‑trip travel to Beijing, a personal stipend, health insurance, required course books and supplies, and campus living expenses In addition, scholars participate in adventurous field‑study tours within China and engage in cultural immersion experiences, all supported within the package

Who Is Eligible

You must hold a bachelor’s degree or be on track to graduate before August 1, 2026. Applicants are required to be between 18 and 28 years old by that same date. Proficiency in English is essential. A TOEFL iBT score of at least 100 or IELTS score of 7.0 is expected unless your prior education was taught in English, which may qualify you for a waiver 

Show evidence of leadership in your personal, academic, or professional life. Demonstrate clarity of purpose, empathy, global outlook, integrity, and intellectual ambition. The program is open to applicants from every nationality and background 

The Schwarzman Experience

Your year begins in August 2026 at Tsinghua University’s Schwarzman College. The curriculum, delivered in English, focuses on leadership, global affairs, and China’s global transformation. Scholars choose concentrations in Public Policy, Economics & Business, or International Studies. Daily classes are paired with mentorship from global leaders, seminars, leadership challenges, and field trips to major cities and institutions across China

Life at Schwarzman College is lively and diverse. You’ll live alongside peers from around the world, forming deep bonds through seminars, cultural events, student initiatives, and Mandarin language learning. The Selection Journey

After application submission, an international admissions committee carefully reviews every candidate. Shortlisted candidates are invited to regional interviews—virtually or in person—during October and November 2025. Final decisions will be notified by December 2025, with enrollment beginning in August 2026

How to Apply

Applications open in April 2025 for U.S. and global candidates. The deadline for submission is September 10, 2025 at 3:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time. Candidates holding Chinese passports must apply earlier through a separate portal with a deadline in mid‑May 2025, yet will join the same cohort starting in August 2026 .The application is hosted on the official Schwarzman Scholars website, in English and Roman script only. Prepare a concise résumé (max two pages), a leadership essay (around 750 words), a statement of purpose (around 500 words), three letters of recommendation, academic transcripts from all post‑secondary study, and a short personal video if desired. A valid English proficiency score must be provided unless exempted
