Eligibility & Target Candidates
Applicants must hold a university degree and have relevant professional experience, aiming to pursue postgraduate studies or research stays in Germany. Master’s candidates should be under 30; PhD applicants under 35. While a Catholic background is preferred, other Christian denominations and interreligious applicants are welcomed if recommended by a Catholic partner. German language skills at B1 level (or A2 for English-taught programs) are required; KAAD offers up to six months of pre-study German courses in GermanyPaths & Application Routes
Three scholarship streams are available. Programme 1 supports newcomers applying from their home countries to Germany. In‑country and third‑country options fund studies within partner regions. Programme 2 supports students already enrolled in German universities, nominated via Catholic university chaplaincies. KAAD scholarships cover full tuition, a monthly living stipend adjusted to German standards, accommodation support, health insurance, travel expenses, and a pre-study language course.
