About the Scholarship
Offered as part of the renowned Chevening Scholarships, the SIDS track provides up to 40 fully funded master’s awards beginning in 2026. Candidates first apply through the standard Chevening process and opt‑in for SIDS consideration—a checkbox during submission identifies interest. The top-ranking applicant(s) from each eligible country are awarded the SIDS scholarship track.
Benefits for SIDS Scholars
Recipients receive full tuition fee coverage, a monthly stipend for living expenses, return air travel, visa support, arrival and departure allowances, and access to exclusive events—especially a welcome gathering at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). Scholars also gain access to a global alumni network and opportunities to engage in UK–SIDS policy and networking workshops.
Fields of Study & Impact
Applicants must propose a master’s study programme aligned with national development priorities. Recommended thematic areas include climate change and sustainability, economic recovery, democratic governance, human rights, and resilient societies—each chosen for its relevance to SIDS communities’ challenges.
Eligibility Criteria
Open to citizens of eligible Small Island Developing States—such as Antigua & Barbuda, Fiji, Jamaica, Maldives, Mauritius, Samoa, Vanuatu, and others listed on official Chevening pages. Applicants must meet standard Chevening eligibility: a first-class or upper second-class undergraduate degree, at least two years of work experience, strong leadership potential, and clear development vision.

How to Apply & Timeline
Applications for the 2026 intake open in August 2025 and close in October 2025. During the Chevening application, international applicants from SIDS nations select a checkbox if they wish to be considered for the SIDS scholarship.Of eligible countries, the top candidates are chosen per country. Selection follows with interviews in early 2026, and final awards announced by June 2026. Studies begin in the UK in September or October 2026.
