Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents employed by a Canadian media outlet or working as freelance journalists with at least two years of experience and a proven history of publication in Canadian media. Past recipients are ineligible to apply until three years after receiving an award

Fellowship Deliverables

Fellows are expected to produce a minimum of three in-depth stories, with at least one intended for digital media. You will implement a social media strategy (on platforms such as X, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) to broaden reach. A short multimedia piece—a 60‑second video, podcast, or blog post—must be produced as a summary of your fellowship for the APF Canada website. A final reflective written report (700–1,000 words) is required and may lead to an invitation to share insights in APF Canada offices 

What the Fellowship Offers

APF Canada provides up to C$10,000 to support travel, accommodation, and in-country research costs. Two fellowships will be awarded for this cycle. Recipients gain access to APF Canada’s network and platform, exposure through Canadian media publication and the Foundation’s digital channels, and the opportunity to contribute to understanding salient issues in Asia relevant to Canada 

Preferred Themes

Applications focusing on emerging technology, AI and data governance, economic or energy security, maritime or Arctic governance, climate solutions, space, trade and investment, supply chain resilience, or other issues of growing relevance to Canada‑Asia relations will receive preferential consideration

How to Apply
Submit your application by August 22, 2025 (11:59 p.m. PT) via email or mail in English or French. The application must include a single proposal document containing your 500–750 word narrative outlining your topic, motivation, rationale, and plan of execution and dissemination. Include a detailed budget (up to C$10,000) covering travel, accommodation, and in-country expenses.
