Scholarship Details

This scholarship supports research-based postgraduate degrees, covering up to two years for Master’s students and up to 3.5 or 4 years for doctoral candidates depending on program length. Applications made by the course closing date are automatically considered without needing a separate scholarship form. Two hundred to six hundred awards are available annually across all fields of study, reflecting the University’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

Eligibility

Available to applicants of all nationalities in Master’s by Research or doctoral research programs, eligibility requires formal admission to the Graduate Research Degree at the University of Melbourne. Previous recipients of equivalent research scholarships at this level are excluded. Applicants must meet academic standards equivalent to at least 75 percent or first‑class honours and demonstrate clear research potential.

Benefits

The scholarship includes a full tuition fee waiver for the duration of your degree. It provides a competitive annual living stipend—approximately AUD 37,000 to AUD 38,500 in 2025 and expected to continue indexing upward. Relocation allowances up to AUD 3,000 are offered, along with Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students. Limited paid leave, such as sick or parental leave where eligible, is included.
