Return, Reinvent, Reconnect: DAAD Re‑Invitation Programme for Former Scholars
Who Can Apply
Eligibility extends to individuals who previously held a DAAD research or study scholarship (funded over six months via the German Foreign Office) or former GDR scholars who studied in Germany for at least one year. You must also have lived outside Germany for at least three years before applying
Types of Funded Projects
Candidates may pursue either:
A research or working project at a state‑recognized German university or research institute, or
A professional placement in business, administration, media, or cultural sectors if working outside academia.
It’s possible to organize a visit across multiple German institutions to suit your project needs
Duration & Funding Benefits
Funding covers stays between 1 and 3 months, starting in 2026. Fellowships are non-renewable and may only be awarded once every three years
Monthly stipends range from €2,000 (for assistant-level academics) to €2,150 (for full professors). Professionals outside academia receive support tailored to their qualifications. Travel costs and DAAD-covered health insurance are also included, with available support for disability-related expenses
Selection Criteria
Your application is evaluated by an independent committee based on:
- Academic and professional achievements (including publications)
- The quality and feasibility of your proposed research or work plan
- The potential for lasting impact or collaboration through your stay
- For non-academic applicants: relevance of the stay to career advancement or multiplier effects
Why This Fellowship Matters
This programme offers a unique chance to reconnect with Germany’s academic or professional environments—even if it’s years after a prior DAAD scholarship. It supports intellectual mobility, renewed collaboration, and continuation of research or professional development within Germany’s vibrant networks
Application Process & Timeline
Submit your application online via the DAAD portal, coordinating with a confirmed German host institution (they must guarantee workplace access). Required documents include your CV, project proposal, host confirmation, proof of previous DAAD funding, and relevant affiliations
