This award provides full salary support set by your host organisation plus up to £400,000 in research expenses over a period typically lasting up to five years. Depending on your discipline and working arrangements, the award’s duration may be adjusted. Applications are accepted three times per year, with a key deadline of 30 September 2025 at 17:00 BST.
Eligibility
The scheme welcomes early‑career researchers who hold a PhD (or equivalent) or have at least four years of research experience. Clinical applicants must hold a relevant licence. You may have up to three years of postdoctoral experience, with allowances for career breaks or part‑time study. Applicants must dedicate at least 80 percent of their time to research (up to 40 percent for clinical researchers). Host institutions must be UK, Republic of Ireland, or eligible low‑ or middle‑income countries (excluding India and mainland China).
Benefits
Through this award you will receive a salary determined by your host organisation and up to £400,000 for research activities and related expenses. Eligible costs beyond this cap include overseas allowances, overheads, equipment, travel, public engagement, training, and open‑access fees. Recipient institutions may also request adjustment support such as assistive technology or staff. Global Talent visa endorsement is guaranteed for international candidates hosted in the UK.
