Backed by the philanthropic vision of Dr. Graham Siddall and Mrs. Brenda Siddall, this scholarship values academic distinction, research promise, and civic-minded leadership — and is open exclusively to outstanding U.S. citizens who have studied in the United States and never lived in the U.K. The scholarship is currently accepting applications for Autumn 2026 entry, with admission closing on 13 January 2026 at 5 PM UK time

Beyond grades, applicants submit a concise 500‑word research proposal detailing how their work aligns with the faculty’s research strengths. A separate 500‑word civic engagement essay illustrates how each candidate has contributed to their own community, and how they intend to contribute to Sheffield’s civic life 

What the Award Covers

The scholarship fully covers international tuition fees for up to one year and provides a maintenance stipend of £18,000, typically disbursed in four equal installments during the academic year. In total, the award is valued at around £50,000

Submission Timeline and Process

To apply, you must concurrently apply for admission to an eligible one-year Master’s program in the Faculty of Engineering. Attach a supporting reference letter written by a faculty staff member in your intended department — confirming your research proposal and application readiness. The submission deadline is 13 January 2026, by 5 PM UK timeShortlisted candidates will receive formal invitations for online interviews in early March 2026. Final award notifications are scheduled for release by 31 March 2026

Instructions for Applicants

Begin by ensuring you meet eligibility: U.S. citizenship, undergraduate degree in engineering or a related discipline, a competitive GPA, and no prior residence in the U.K. Secure admission from the Faculty of Engineering and include a faculty endorsement letter with your application.Within your personal statement, clearly articulate your research intent and civic engagement goals. Submit your complete application as early as possible and prepare for a March interview, should you be shortlisted.
