EMBO offers fully supported fellowships lasting 1 to 2 years, with applications accepted year‑round. Key cut-off dates for 2025:

  • Spring round: fourth Friday of January (results by mid-June)
  • Autumn round: second Friday of July—next deadline Friday, 11 July 2025 at 14:00 CEST .

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, you must:
Hold a PhD (or equivalent) at the time your fellowship starts—and it should be no more than two years old at application 
Have at least one first‑author peer‑reviewed publication, or a refereed preprint with independent reviews
Change country for your postdoc—you cannot return to the country or lab where you earned your PhD, or have worked over six months in your proposed host lab 
Not pursue a direct continuation of your PhD project 
Reapplications allowed only once; career breaks (e.g., parental leave, illness) may qualify for exceptions

Fellowships are offered as employment contracts within EMBC Member States, or stipends in non‑member countries
