Programme Details
The fellowship invites outstanding postdoctoral researchers and experienced faculty from institutions outside Germany to spend up to twelve days at the University of Bonn throughout 2026. As a fellow you will be fully integrated into academic life through seminars, public lectures and direct engagement with Bonn scholars and faculty. Preference is given to researchers from strategic partner universities and priority countries, reflecting Bonn’s commitment to deepening international collaboration
Eligibility Requirements
Eligible candidates hold a doctorate and serve as post-doctoral scholars or faculty at universities or research institutes outside Germany. Only University of Bonn faculty may nominate applicants via the internal application portal. Self-nominations are not accepted and the host must submit required documentation on behalf of the fellow. Candidates are expected to have strong international academic reputations and potential for impactful collaboration
Fellowship Benefits
Every fellow receives a daily allowance of €160 for up to twelve days including arrival and departure dates. Travel expenses are covered based on the fellow’s home country. Event-related material costs such as public outreach, catering or seminar organization are funded up to €500 per proposal, enabling active participation in Bonn’s research ecosystem. The full funding package supports meaningful exchange without financial burden
Selection Criteria
Selection is based on the visiting researcher’s academic excellence and reputation, the quality and feasibility of the proposed visit activities, and the expected long-term impact of future collaboration with Bonn hosts. Contribution to academic life in Bonn via lectures, workshops or seminars strengthens candidacy
How to Apply
Begin by identifying a University of Bonn faculty member in your field who is willing to host you and submit your nomination. The host will submit an online application which includes a detailed project description of up to six pages, your CV, a signed invitation letter, your informal consent letter, and a financing plan using Bonn’s official template. The call opens on May 29, 2025; complete application must be submitted by September 22, 2025 at 17:00 CET. Decisions will be communicated by early December 2025, and your visit must take place between January 1 and December 31, 2026
