Fellowship Details
This prestigious fellowship is offered by the British Academy in collaboration with the Royal Society. It provides support for research projects hosted at any UK higher education or research institution. The program spans up to two years, starting as early as October 2025, with the flexibility to begin before March 2026. Applications open on March 18, 2025, and must be submitted by 5:00 pm GMT
Eligibility
Applicants must hold a PhD or be in the final stages of completion, with the viva successfully passed before the fellowship begins. You should have no more than seven years of full-time postdoctoral experience, excluding career breaks. Candidates residing and working outside the UK who do not hold UK citizenship are eligible. A formal research agreement with a UK host researcher is required, and proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
Fellowship Benefits
The Fellowship covers 80% of the full economic cost of your research project for up to two years. This includes funding of up to £12,000 for research-related expenses and up to £8,000 for relocation costs. You will also benefit from professional development opportunities including training, mentoring, and access to the International Fellowships alumni network. While the fellowship does not cover personal living costs, it provides vital support for research and mobility.
How to Apply
Begin by identifying and confirming a UK-based academic mentor who will act as your sponsor. Prepare a strong research proposal, a concise CV, and supporting statements from your UK sponsor, the sponsor’s Head of Department, and two referees. All application materials must be submitted through the British Academy’s Flexi‑Grant online system before 5 pm GMT on March 18, 2025. Adhering carefully to the official guidance notes will ensure eligibility.
