Fellowship Details
The fellowship takes place at Kyoto University in Kyoto, Japan, and lasts between three and six months. The program runs between March and June 2027, with different starting dates available.
A total of 14 fellowships are offered, including one special position for a librarian. During their stay, participants are officially appointed as researchers at Kyoto University and become part of its international academic community.
The application deadline is 30 April 2026.
Research Areas
The fellowship supports multidisciplinary research in a wide range of fields connected to Southeast Asia and comparative studies. Areas of focus include Southeast Asian Studies, History and Political Economy, Environmental and Ecological Studies, Cultural and Social Research, Area Studies, and Comparative Research.
Applicants are encouraged to propose original projects that contribute to a deeper understanding of the region and its global connections.
Benefits
The Kyoto University CSEAS Fellowship provides full financial support for the research period. Fellows receive a stipend that covers living expenses and international travel to Japan. Additional research funding and domestic travel support may also be available according to program regulations.
