Up to twenty percent of awards reserved for international researchers
Up to thirty percent of awards may be held outside Canada for eligible Canadian citizens or permanent residents

Eligibility Criteria

Must hold or expect to hold a PhD or recognized health professional degree
Must have completed all doctoral requirements within the past three years extensions available
Must not hold a tenured or tenure track faculty position
Must not have previously held a Tri Agency postdoctoral award including Banting
Research proposal must be original innovative and clearly distinct from the doctoral thesis
Applicants may apply a maximum of three times

Eligibility extensions may be granted for parental or caregiving responsibilities medical or family interruptions military service war natural disasters industry or government employment clinical training not related to research
