The scholarship is available across a range of top academic faculties, including:
Faculty of Archaeology, Faculty of Medicine/LUMC, Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs, Faculty of Law (Advanced LLMs only), Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, and Faculty of Science.
Scholarship Value
The award amount is non-negotiable, and recipients are expected to demonstrate additional financial resources to meet visa and living expenses in the Netherlands.Although not a full scholarship, the LExS represents a prestigious academic honor that significantly reduces financial barriers while recognizing outstanding global talent.
Who Can Apply
There are no nationality restrictions, however, for applicants to Advanced LLM programmes or the MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy.
UK students are also eligible since the UK is now considered a non-EEA country.
Eligibility Requirements
Be non-EEA/EFTA nationals (unless applying for one of the exempt programmes).
Have an exceptional academic record, typically ranking within the top 10% of their graduating class.
Apply to an eligible Master’s programme starting in September 2025.
Submit a motivation letter (maximum 500 words) outlining academic achievements, leadership potential, and how studying at Leiden aligns with their long-term goals.
