About the Scholarship
This scholarship is offered by the USHIO Foundation and is specifically designed for students who are already enrolled in graduate programs in Japan without external financial support
It aims to recognize academic excellence while assisting students who demonstrate financial need and strong potential in STEM related disciplines
Benefits
Monthly stipend of one hundred twenty thousand yen
Funding duration up to two years for Master’s students
Funding duration up to three years for PhD students
No repayment required as it is a grant not a loan

Eligibility Criteria
Open to international students of all nationalities except restricted categories
Applicants must currently be studying in Japan under a valid student visa
Candidates must be privately funded and not receiving other living stipends
Applicants must be thirty years old or younger as of April 2026
Must be enrolled in an eligible graduate program in a STEM related field
Strong academic performance and demonstrated financial need are required
Academic requirements
Minimum GPA equivalent to two point five on JASSO scale
Strong academic record with high grade performance
Language requirement
Japanese language proficiency around JLPT N2 level is mandatory

Chinese nationals are not eligible under this application route
