Scholarship Benefits

Fully funded PhD position with employment contract and social benefits (TVL-13, 65%), approximate gross salary of €3,009 per month
Duration: 3 years with possible extension until completion
No tuition fees, only a semester social contribution (~€335) including a Deutschlandticket for public transport across Germany
Structured research training through lectures, seminars, journal clubs, and soft-skills workshops
Career development support with an annual travel grant of €1,500 for international conferences, mentoring programmes, and networking opportunities

Eligibility Criteria

Hold a Master’s degree or equivalent (MD, Diploma, etc.) in life sciences, natural sciences, medical sciences, or related fields
Have relevant research experience through thesis work, internships, or lab projects
Demonstrate excellent English proficiency (C1 level) – English test certificate optional, statement of fluency required
Medical graduates with sufficient research experience are also eligible

Selection Process

First screening based on academic qualifications and research background
Online panel interviews for top 80 candidates (December 8–10, 2025)
Recruitment week in Cologne for top 25 candidates (February 23–27, 2026)
Final offers: up to 12 PhD positions starting between July–October 2026
