Details
This fellowship celebrates the British Council’s 90th anniversary and runs from January 2026 to December 2026. Fellows spend 10 months at Edinburgh, followed by 1–2 months in their home country leading knowledge exchange activities in partnership with the British Council 

Eligibility

Open to early‑career postdoctoral researchers based in ODA‑eligible countries where the British Council operates (including countries such as Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Yemen, Sudan, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Tunisia, and others) 
Applicants must have completed a PhD between 2018 and 2025 (adjusted for career breaks), must not hold a permanent academic post or previous IASH fellowship, and must propose research that aligns with British Council strategic themes such as arts, education, English language, peacebuilding, cultural diplomacy, and international development 

Benefits

Fellows receive a monthly bursary of £2,500 for 12 months, full travel expenses, dedicated office space at IASH, university email and library access, and mentorship from Edinburgh faculty. Weekly Fellows’ lunches, seminar series, and opportunities to lead workshops and engage with the British Council form part of the academic community experience

Applications open from 29 April 2025. Attend the Q&A webinar on 23 May 2025 at 13:00 UK time for guidance. Submit your online application by 28 July 2025 at 23:59 UK time, including a motivation letter, CV, research proposal, cover letter, and 2–3 confidential references (one must confirm PhD completion)
