Available Research Fellowships

Sidney Sussex College is offering two fellowships: one in the Sciences, including Mathematics, Engineering, Biological, Medical, and Veterinary Sciences, and one in Literary Studies, including English, Modern and Medieval Languages, and Classics. These fellowships are designed for PhD students close to completion or postdoctoral researchers within three years of their PhD.

Eligible Candidates

Applicants must have submitted or expect to submit their PhD by 31 June 2026 or have completed their PhD after October 1, 2022. The fellowships are open to candidates of all nationalities, and visa sponsorship may be provided under the UK Global Talent Visa scheme.

Benefits of the Fellowship

Research Fellows receive a competitive stipend starting at £28,031 per annum for PhD holders or £25,249 per annum before PhD submission. College-owned accommodation options are available with subsidized rent, or Fellows may receive a £5,900 living-out allowance if they choose to live independently. Additional benefits include a £1,500 annual academic allowance for research and teaching expenses, a £500 entertainment allowance, dining privileges at Fellows’ dinners, and social access to College events. Fellows may also gain up to four hours per week of undergraduate teaching experience, compensated at the University supervision rate.
