Fully Funded PhD in Mathematical Sciences IMU Breakout Graduate Fellowship Program 2027
Funded by internationally renowned winners of the Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics and administered by the International Mathematical Union through its Commission for Developing Countries this fellowship is dedicated to empowering exceptional students to advance research and academic leadership in developing nations
The program supports postgraduate studies leading to a Doctor of Philosophy degree at recognized universities or research institutions in developing countries including the applicant’s home country

The fellowship cannot be combined with any other scholarship
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to citizens and residents of developing countries as defined by the International Mathematical Union
- Applicants must be enrolled or pre accepted in a PhD program in a developing country
- Applicants must demonstrate an outstanding academic record in mathematics
- A clearly defined research project and confirmed PhD supervisor are required
- Strong motivation for a career in mathematical research and teaching must be demonstrated
- Students enrolled in joint PhD programs with institutions in developed countries are not eligible
- For nominators the nominee must be proposed by a university professor in mathematics holding a PhD who actively supervises Master’s or PhD students and preferably has prior mentoring experience with the candidate Self applications are not permitted
