Scholarship Details
The studentship is part of the research project “Pan-African Frontiers: Reparative Futures and the Reimagining of Global Order,” funded through a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship led by Dr Daniel Mulugeta.
Only one fully funded place is available, making this one of the most competitive and prestigious doctoral opportunities in the field of Pan-African Studies. The scholarship is open for the 2026–2027 intake and is available to applicants pursuing a full-time MPhil/PhD in Politics and International Studies at SOAS University of London.
Research Areas
Applicants are encouraged to propose original and innovative research related to the themes of the project. Suggested topics include reparations and historical justice linked to slavery and colonialism, Pan-Africanism and global governance, the role of African and Caribbean countries in international institutions, diaspora politics and transnational networks, regional cooperation across Africa and the Caribbean, and the relationship between global inequality and institutional reform.
Interdisciplinary research that combines politics, sociology, history, and international relations is especially encouraged.

Eligibility
Applicants must apply for a full-time MPhil/PhD in Politics and International Studies for the 2026–2027 academic year. Candidates should hold, or expect to obtain, a master’s degree with merit or distinction, or an equivalent international qualification. Applicants must also meet the English language requirements if applicable.
Both Home and Overseas students are eligible, making this opportunity accessible to outstanding researchers from around the world.
