Fully Funded Internships at Max Planck Institutes in Computer Science – Summer 2026

Participating Institutes

• Max Planck Institute for Informatics (Saarbrücken)
• Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern)
• Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy (Bochum)

Program Details

• Duration: Typically 12–14 weeks, with the possibility of extension.
• Working Language: English (no requirement to know German)
• Supervision: Each intern works directly with an academic supervisor (faculty member) at one of the participating institutes.
• Nature of Projects: Determined based on the intern’s interests and experience after acceptance

Eligibility Criteria

• Be a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral student, or an industry professional interested in academic research.
• Have a strong background in computer science or a related field (equivalent to the first three years of a bachelor’s degree in computer science).
• Hold an excellent academic record, regardless of its length.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s students may use the internship as a thesis project if their university permits.
• Applicants from diverse academic backgrounds or with interdisciplinary interests are welcome.
• Special encouragement for applicants from underrepresented groups in computer science or other STEM fields.

Application Deadlines

• For internships starting between May and August: Apply by November 1 of the previous year. Successful applicants will be notified before March 1.
• For other times of the year: Apply at least 5 months before the desired start date. Applicants are notified within 3–4 months.
