Illuminate Insight: NOMIS Fellowship at University of Basel (September 2026 – August 2027)

Details

This one‑year fellowship begins on September 1, 2026, and accommodates up to three fellows across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. It supports original, interdisciplinary research on how images function as models or paradigms in scientific, aesthetic, and didactic contexts. Applications may be submitted in English or German, and must arrive by September 1, 2025.

Eligibility

Open to outstanding early‑career and senior researchers holding a PhD Applicants must have already published either a monograph (e.g., dissertation) or at least three peer‑reviewed articles The proposed research must align with eikones’ focus on imagery as instruments or models for knowledge creation and interpretation

Benefits

Fellowships include a monthly competitive salary, funding for travel and conference participation, and full access to the excellent research infrastructure at the University of Basel Fellows are relieved of any teaching or administrative duties to focus purely on research in residence at eikones

Compile application materials into two files: a single PDF (cover letter; CV; two referee contacts – no letters; PhD certificate; 2-3 page project description plus references; and a ~20‑page published writing sample) uploaded under “Resume”; and a separate cover letter file under “Cover Letter.” Submit via the University of Basel online portal before 1 September 2025.
