The program supports Master’s students from DigiQ partner or affiliated universities who wish to conduct a research stay or Master’s thesis at ICFO. Students can choose from diverse fields including Quantum Optics, Quantum Information, Quantum Communication and Cryptography, Quantum Sensing and Metrology, Nanophotonics, Ultrafast Optics, Biophotonics, Condensed Matter Physics, and Theoretical Quantum Science.

Eligibility

Applicants must be enrolled in a Master’s program at a DigiQ partner or affiliated institution, committed to participation in the DigiQ network, and demonstrate strong academic performance and motivation. Proficiency in English is required, and selection will consider academic excellence, teamwork, achievements, and proactive involvement in academic or community activities.

Benefits

The fellowship offers up to 12 months of fully supported research experience at ICFO. Students will receive a monthly stipend of €300 if their home institution is in Catalonia or €600 if based outside Catalonia. Travel expenses are covered, and the fellowship is compatible with Erasmus+ and CQA Student Mobility Fellowships. Fellows gain access to ICFO’s world-class laboratories, interdisciplinary training, and a collaborative network of global researchers.

Application Process

Applicants must submit a cover letter specifying their preferred ICFO Quantum Science research group, intended research duration, and motivation. A full CV, academic transcripts, and contact details of one referee are also required. Applications are reviewed continuously, with shortlisted candidates invited to interviews and successful matches receiving official fellowship offers. Final results are communicated within two months of submission.
