Break New Ground in STEM: British Council Women in STEM Scholarships UK

About the Opportunity

Partnering with select UK universities, the British Council brings the Women in STEM Scholarships to support women and non‑binary individuals from eligible regions who hold qualifications to begin a master’s degree in a STEM field in the UK. The initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in these fields by empowering future leaders with financial support through a one‑year postgraduate programme starting September or October 2025

Who Can Apply

Applicants must identify as women or non‑binary and be permanent residents of eligible countries including Mexico, Brazil, Egypt, Turkey, Albania, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Uzbekistan and others across Asia, Latin America, Central Asia and the Balkans. A completed undergraduate degree relevant to the chosen STEM field is required along with evidence of financial need. You must be new to UK degree‑level study and meet English language requirements. A commitment to return home for at least two years after studies is also expected

What’s Covered

Recipients enjoy full tuition fee coverage at the partnering UK university accompanied by a monthly living stipend (around £1 600 in many cases), economy‑class return airfare, visa and health insurance fees including the NHS surcharge, and IELTS exam reimbursement if needed. Some universities offer additional support such as dependent or maternity allowances

You become part of the British Council’s alumni network, gain prestigious academic credentials from renowned UK universities, and are encouraged to mentor others and act as an ambassador for women in STEM in your home country
