Scholarship Details

This program awards up to nine PhD scholarships annually. Funding spans up to 36 months (three academic years), commencing on April 1, 2026, and concluding March 31, 2029. The scholarship includes a monthly tax-free stipend of €2,200.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants must hold a master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, natural sciences, engineering, or an equivalent field, and be qualified to meet the doctoral admission requirements of their chosen NHR Center. Candidates should demonstrate strong alignment with research themes in high-performance computing, AI/ML, numerical modeling, or similar areas. Proficiency in English is required, while German is not mandatory. Applicants from all backgrounds and nationalities are encouraged to apply. 

Benefits

The scholarship provides €2,200 per month for up to three years, allowing scholars to focus fully on research. You'll receive supervision from renowned experts, participate in annual summer schools, soft-skills workshops, and mentoring sessions. One unique feature is a six-month secondment at a different NHR Center, broadening your research experience and networks. Access to Germany’s top-tier HPC facilities and opportunities to attend conferences and summer schools are also included.

To apply, prepare a single PDF (maximum 10 MB) containing the completed application form, a motivation letter (1–2 pages), a CV (up to two pages), a research statement (1–2 pages including ranked preferences for NHR Centers), academic transcripts (translated into English or German if needed), and proof of English proficiency.
