Contribute to Global Climate Solutions with the MOPGA 2026 Research Fellowship in France
Launched in 2018, MOPGA supports exceptional researchers in addressing major environmental and climate issues. The 2026 edition is funded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR) and implemented by Campus France. Fellows receive full recognition as French Government Scholarship holders (BGF) and access to an enriching research environment in France.
Research Areas
The fellowship targets five key areas:
Earth system sciences
Climate change sciences and sustainability
Energy transition
Societal challenges related to environmental issues
Human, animal, and environmental health under the integrated One Health approach, requiring research that considers the interconnections between ecosystems, human health, and animal health
Projects focusing solely on medicine or human health without clear links to environmental or animal aspects are not eligible.
Funding and Benefits
The MOPGA fellowship provides a monthly allowance of €2,500 and a one-time installation grant of €500. Fellows receive comprehensive health coverage, including health insurance, civil liability insurance, and repatriation assistance, followed by complementary coverage under the French social security system. While international travel costs are not covered, host laboratories may provide additional support. The host institutions commit to providing the necessary scientific environment for project success.
Eligibility
The fellowship is open to non-French researchers who have obtained a PhD within the last five years (December 2020–December 2025), and who have not resided in France for more than 90 days between September 12 and December 12, 2025. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree and a PhD; students are not eligible. Extensions to the eligibility period may be granted for maternity leave.
Selection Process
Applications are reviewed in two stages: a scientific evaluation by experts appointed by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, followed by final selection by a scientific committee.
Why Apply
The MOPGA fellowship offers a unique opportunity to advance your postdoctoral career while contributing to global environmental solutions. Fellows gain international exposure, access to world-class research facilities, and the chance to collaborate with leading scientists on projects that have tangible impacts on climate, sustainability, and public health.
