Redefine Research Ethics: BfR PhD Fellowship in Animal-Free Testing

Details

This fully funded PhD fellowship is part of the joint Neuro‑IUGR project conducted by BfR in Berlin and TiHo Hannover, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The 3‑year position includes:

  • 1.5 years at BfR Berlin (TVöD E13, 65% workload)
  • 1.5 years at TiHo Hannover (TV‑L 13 or 14, 65% workload)

  • You will work on creating 2D and 3D neurosphere models using human stem cells to test neuroprotective therapies, ensuring reproducibility across labs and publishing your findings at academic conferences.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, veterinary medicine, pharmacology, toxicology, or related field

  • Hands-on experience with cell cultures (2D/3D, stem cells preferred)

  • Fluency in both German and English (written and spoken)

  • Strong motivation for scientific research, good teamwork skills, independence, and creativity
    Bonus if you have experience in microscopy, toxicology, or automated image analysis.
