The scholarship is offered by the USHIO Foundation and targets privately funded international students currently studying in Japan
It supports students enrolled in Master’s or PhD programs within selected STEM and technical disciplines

Conditions
Applicants must be international students currently residing and studying in Japan under a student visa
Candidates must be privately funded and not receiving other living stipends
Applicants must be 30 years old or younger by April 2026
Students must be enrolled in an eligible graduate program at Master’s or PhD level
Applicants must demonstrate both financial need and strong academic performance
A minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on the JASSO scale is required with a strong academic record preferred
Japanese language proficiency at approximately JLPT N2 level is mandatory
Chinese nationals are not eligible under this application route
Benefits
Selected students will receive a monthly stipend of 120000 yen to support living expenses
